ICC Circumpolar Inuit Engagement Project

Inuit are a part of a globalizing world. Our communities are often asked to contribute Indigenous knowledge, labor, and time to inform research, policy, and decision making in the Arctic and beyond. The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) believes that Inuit must determine the ethical and equitable pathways of engagement - when, where, how - for our communities and knowledge. So do I!

For the past six months, I’ve been working with ICC on their new Circumpolar Inuit Engagement Project. This project seeks to collect and synthesize all Inuit rules, laws, values, guidelines, and protocols into a report that will inform the creation of international Inuit engagement protocols. I’ve been collecting materials and comments across Inuit Nunaat (Russia, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland) to help develop protocols for the ethical, equitable, and meaningful engagement of Inuit communities and knowledge across the Arctic. If you’re a local community member or representative of an Inuit organization, I’d like to speak with you! You can expect the full synthesis report by the end of 2020.

If there’s anything you would like to share, either materials or comments, please let me know by reaching out through my contact information found on the project flyer below!
